According to a recent Straits Times report in September 2017, the Singapore population is aging faster than before, primarily due to a longer life expectancy and a lower fertility rate. This has resulted in an ever-increasing demand for healthcare workers, such as nurses. Our robot aims to alleviate this pressing need for the constant attention of healthcare workers from elderly patients by implementing several key features. For instance, our robot is able to convert between a bed and wheelchair to avoid having to move the patient between the bed and a wheelchair to move around. Our robot is also able to move between pre-defined locations, such as the ward, operating theatre and x-ray facilities. Lastly, our robot is able to administer a basic mental health test based on the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale as well as remind the patient to take their daily medications.
